Addressing a Critical Need for Solar Safety and Efficiency
As the solar energy industry grows, so does the demand for highly trained technicians capable of installing and maintaining utility-scale solar PV systems. However, a lack of standardised training has resulted in inconsistent safety practices and productivity challenges across the globe. In response, the Global Wind Organisation (GWO), in collaboration with the Global Solar Council (GSC), is launching the Solar Training Standards Initiative.
This initiative aims to establish global safety and technical training standards for solar PV technicians, similar to those already in place for wind energy. By leveraging GWO’s proven training models and GSC’s network of solar experts, this programme will enhance the skills and safety of the workforce, ensuring better outcomes for employers and the environment alike.
Key areas of focus include reducing safety incidents, improving operational performance, and aligning training programmes with global industry needs. By developing these standards, the initiative seeks to provide clarity and consistency in training, ensuring that technicians worldwide meet the highest levels of safety and competence.
The initiative is currently gathering feedback from stakeholders to shape the future of solar PV technician training. Participants include solar EPCs, training providers, and industry leaders, with further consultations planned as the project evolves.
Stay tuned for more updates as GWO and GSC work towards making the solar industry safer and more efficient through this innovative training programme.
