Mondello Park, Ireland’s only international motorsport venue located in County Kildare, has taken a significant step towards sustainability. Known for its historic 3.621 km track and extensive facilities, the venue traditionally required considerable energy to operate. In partnership with Infinite Energy, Mondello Park installed a solar PV system and supported the transition to electric vehicles. This collaboration highlights the potential of solar energy to transform the motorsport industry and reduce environmental impact.
Project Highlights
Location: Kildare, Ireland
System Size: 108.5 kWp Solar PV
Duration of Works: 1.5 weeks
Annual Savings: €31,714
Payback Period: 3-4 years
The Infinite Energy Solution
As part of Mondello Park's sustainability initiative, Infinite Energy designed and installed a 108.5 kWp Solar PV system on the roofs of the hospitality suites and museum. This innovative solution harnesses the sun’s power, significantly reducing the venue's reliance on conventional energy sources. The entire installation process, managed expertly by Infinite Energy, was completed seamlessly in just 1.5 weeks, with the team ensuring minimal disruption to the track's daily activities.
The solar PV system now powers the venue’s operations and several newly installed electric vehicle (EV) charging ports, which further supports Mondello Park's shift towards a sustainable future.
Transition to Electric Mobility
The project also included the installation of multiple EV charging ports, powered by the Infinite Energy Solar PV system, to facilitate the transition of Mondello Park's popular Early Learners driving program to electric vehicles. By combining solar power with electric mobility, Mondello Park is taking a holistic approach to sustainability, setting an example for others in the motorsport industry.
Results and Benefits
The collaboration with Infinite Energy has delivered impressive results:
Cost Savings: The solar PV system is expected to save Mondello Park approximately €31,714 annually in energy costs, with a payback period of just 3-4 years. This demonstrates the financial viability of adopting renewable energy solutions.
Quick Turnaround: The installation was completed in just 1.5 weeks, with Infinite Energy’s expert team working efficiently to avoid any disruption to the track's schedule.
Enhanced Sustainability: The combination of solar power and electric vehicle infrastructure reflects a significant commitment to reducing the environmental impact of motorsport.
Ian Beatty, Operations & Sporting Director at Mondello Park, praised the project’s execution and impact:
“Mondello decided to go solar whilst also introducing electric vehicles as part of our sustainability project. We realise motorsport is not the most sustainable industry and wanted to do what we could to improve that and save energy costs. The installation by Infinite Energy was seamless; everything was done in just over a week. The team went out of their way so there was no disruption to our business. Sometimes they had to work around activities on the circuit. When the installation team left, everything was tidy as if they weren’t even there.”
The solar PV installation at Mondello Park, delivered by Infinite Energy, stands as a powerful example of how renewable energy can drive meaningful change in the motorsport industry, and underscores solar energy's potential to transform energy use across diverse sectors.
