Conall Bolger is the CEO of the Irish Solar Energy Association. He has significant markets, commercial and policy experience, having worked across the energy value chain: from community and behind the meter projects to larger scale onshore and offshore wind development. He founded, led, and developed Cornwall Insight’s Irish operations. His international renewables experience includes Poland, Canada, and the UK.
Oisín Joyce - Policy Officer - ISEA
Oisín is Policy Officer with the Irish Solar Energy Association and is focused on sustainable energy transition. His professional experience includes business development, campaign fundraising, information technology and research within the renewable energy space.
Bill Senior - Power Capital and Treasurer - Irish Solar Energy Association (ISEA)
Bill Senior is Director of Corporate Development at Power Capital Renewable Energy and Board Director and Treasurer at ISEA. Bill has 15 years of infrastructure and technology experience and joined the Irish solar market in 2016, involved in commercial and utility solar PV projects. Bill leads the development team at Power Capital with a 1GW pipeline and supports ISEA with promoting and advancing policy and regulatory change to deliver 5GW by 2030. Bill is also a Chartered Engineer with Engineers Ireland and a part time lecturer at Trinity College Dublin supporting student and CPD development.
Declan Cullinane - Country Manager - BayWa r.e. (Ireland)
Declan Cullinane is the Country Manager for BayWa r.e. in Ireland focusing on onshore & offshore wind, solar and storage development through to operation.
Declan has over 15 years’ experience in the energy industry with a focus over the past 13 years in renewables focusing on European and emerging markets. Declan has worked in several auction based markets and brings knowledge of best approaches to the challenge that Ireland faces to deliver solar projects in a subsidy free market.
Furthermore with the experience within the wider business of BayWa r.e. AG who operates in 20+ countries, Declan would look to leverage that knowledge and drive the long term strategy for the solar industry in Ireland.
Donal O'Sullivan - VP and Director for Ireland Wind and Solar - Statkraft
Donal is responsible for overseeing Statkraft Ireland’s renewables development including grid services and operational business in Ireland. Donal has 15 years of project development & leadership experience in the renewable energy sector both in Ireland & the UK. Prior to his current role, Donal was Head of Development in Statkraft Ireland since 2018.
As part of his role Donal is responsible for the Irish Development teams based in Cork and Tullamore. Donal has helped grow and transform Statkraft Ireland’s development pipeline from 1.3GW to 2GW wind, and from zero to 1GW solar and has helped grow the Statkraft renewable energy pipeline to over 4GW of all forms of renewables including grid services.
Donal helped ensure Statkraft won over support for over 330MW of solar and wind projects in the first RESS auction which are now in construction. Donal is a member of Wind Energy Ireland (WEI) Council and a Director of the Irish Solar Energy Association (ISEA)
Donal previously worked with SWS Energy and Bord Gais Energy and prior to working in the wind industry Donal worked in the telecoms sector for a number of years.
Gavin Blake - Partner - ByrneWallace LLC
Gavin has over fourteen years’ experience advising clients in the energy sector, in particular in relation to wind farm projects but also extending to projects in the fields of solar PV, energy storage, bioenergy, hydro, auto-production, conventional power, AD and CHP. He works with developers, funders and investors from the securing of land rights and consenting phase right through to project finance and construction. Gavin also regularly acts in the acquisition and disposal of renewable electricity projects, both at development stage and operational stage.
Prior to joining ByrneWallace LLP, Gavin was Partner in the Energy and Natural Resources team of another large Irish law firm. Gavin was also previously company secretary of a multi-national renewable energy developer.
Gavin is the current honorary secretary and a director of the Irish Solar Energy Association and through his active involvement with this organisation is very much at the cutting edge in terms of current and ongoing developments and changes affecting the Irish renewable electricity sector.
Gerhard Heyl - Director - PV Green Energy Savings
Gerhard is a self-motivated, driven solar PV professional who is dedicated to influencing and supporting Ireland's renewable energy infrastructure in a concerted effort to help reduce the national carbon footprint. Gerhard in Founder and Managing Director of PV Green Energy, an organisation that has been providing the Irish homeowner with solar energy solutions for over a decade.
A key member of the steering committee that consulted with HomeBond, SEAI and Safe Electric in establishing a knowledge base and better understanding about PV. He now is a Board Member of the Irish Solar Energy Association and Leads the working group Behind the Meter. The Working Group are tasked with developing a consultation document to help senior politicians understand the challenges for homeowners to in adopting a cleaner, greener home with solar PV.
Originally from Pretoria, South Africa Gerhard now prides himself in not only delivering solar PV to the Irish homeowner but also being influential in bringing Distributed Generation to the fore and sharing his knowledge and experience with his peers and colleagues. In addition, Gerhard is a big supporter of the rollout of EV’s in Ireland and Chairs a number of Committees designed primarily to help the Irish consumer and business leader understand the challenges, benefits and opportunities available in adopting a EV community.
Maeve O'Callaghan - Senior Operations Manager - Elgin Energy
Maeve has over 6 years’ experience in the utility scale solar industry and has been involved in project development of solar farms in Ireland, Australia and the US. Having graduated with a Masters in Energy and Environmental Finance from UCD Michael Smurfit Graduate Business School in 2015, Maeve joined Elgin Energy as part the development team. During her first 2 years, Maeve managed the development of solar farms in Ireland and successfully secured consents for a number of these developments.
In 2018, Maeve travelled to Sydney to establish the Australian business for Elgin in the country’s rapidly growing solar market. Elgin Energy has since established a team in Australia and has 600MW+ of utility scale solar in development across New South Wales & Victoria with projects ranging from 60MW to 250MW in size. On return to the Dublin, Maeve led the management of Elgin Energy’s US joint venture which involved solar farm development in Massachusetts, New Mexico and Wyoming.
Currently, Maeve is Senior Operations Manager as part of Elgin’s management team and is involved in the group’s financial, operational and development transactions across each of its core markets. Throughout 2020 and 2021, Maeve continued her professional development through the successful completion of a Diploma in Corporate Governance from Glasgow Caledonian University and the Smart Choice Leadership Program from the University of Limerick.
Peter Kavanagh - Director - Highfield Energy Services Ltd
Highfield Energy is a leading developer of renewable and clean-energy projects, with projects in Ireland and overseas. Our development pipeline includes utility-scale wind and solar photovoltaic generation, stand-alone and co-located battery storage projects.
Richard Green - Corporate Development Manager - Energia Group
Richard holds a BSc (Hons) in Estate Management and is a qualified Chartered Surveyor.
He has experience of delivering major commercial development projects and asset management strategies in the UK and Ireland.
He has worked in the solar industry since 2012 and has been responsible for the development of an operational portfolio of c100MWp of solar PV projects in Northern Ireland, including the first utility scale solar PV project on the Island of Ireland, which became operational in 2016.
In his role within the Corporate Development Team at Energia Group, Richard is responsible for the development and delivery of a portfolio of large scale solar PV projects across Ireland. Energia Group is a modern independent all-island energy utility, with diversified business interests across renewable and flexible electricity generation and currently has over 300MW of operational renewable energy projects in Ireland.
Tara Reale - Head of Business Development UK and Ireland - Lightsource bp
As Head of Business Development for Lightsource bp across the UK and Ireland, Tara Reale is responsible for the overall management of all LS bp development activity in Ireland and leads on the development of the early-stage pipeline in the UK, including the expansion of the business into co-located storage and green hydrogen. With over 1.3GW constructed in the UK, 330MW consented in Ireland and a current consented pipeline of c.400MW in the UK, LS bp is the largest solar developer across the UK and Ireland and thus has significant experience with different technologies, commercial structures and routes to market.
Prior to joining LS bp, Tara was a Principal Project Manager for Amey Investments in London, responsible for originating new projects across the environmental sector, particularly energy from waste and electric vehicle infrastructure. Previously she was also a Senior Technical and Commercial Adviser for Mott MacDonald, as well as a Structural Engineer with Aecom, and therefore has broad experience across the project development lifecycle, along with an especially keen interest to further the development of the solar sector in Ireland.
Tara graduated from UCC in 2009 as a Civil and Environmental Engineer, before completing a PhD in Asset Management at Trinity College Dublin in 2012.
