Grid connections are having a major impact on the success and viability of RESS 1 solar projects. We have also completed the ECP-1 batch, having the ECP2.1 batch being processed and the ECP2.2 batch window opening in September. This presentation will consider the lessons learned on grid connections from RESS 1 and the ECP 1/2.1 process and look forward to RESS 2 and ECP2.2.
RESS-1 projects are now reaching financial close, with some expected to be operational by year end. This presentation will discuss some learnings in securing that fundamental revenue stream within RESS-1 Power Purchase Agreements – the energy payment. The RESS PPA market remains relatively immature, nevertheless the interest from providers of those PPAs are keeping headline balancing fees low and competitive. Activities pre and post the RESS-1 auction, the uncertainty around the Clean Energy Package (which will endure approaching the RESS-2 deadlines) are covered. Managing the potential risk of scheduling for new renewable projects and achieving compensation for downward redispatch remain complicated issues to resolve in contracts while the market rules and procedures around scheduling and dispatch, and the level of available firm access to the grid remain unknown.
