About the event
In this webinar, AFRY will present the results of their study on the impact on societal cost of different potential outcomes in the upcoming 3rd Renewable electricity support scheme (RESS-3) auction in terms of the mix of onshore wind and solar which is successful. The study demonstrates the societal benefits of increased solar deployment in RESS-3 and of meeting the governments 5.5GW by 2030 target. Previous ISEA studies have demonstrated that CfD auction strike price alone is an imperfect measure of the costs to society of renewables generation. This was recognised by DECC in the second RESS auction through the introduction of technology specific Evaluation Correction Factors (ECF). In their study AFRY analyse the wider costs to society which are determined by the cost of supporting renewables, the cost of meeting demand and the resultant emissions from power generation. This holistic review of the impact of RESS-3 results allows for the determination of an appropriate ECF for solar which would effectively capture the wider benefits to society.
